    Open Letter to Governor Napolitano
by Macker on 09-24-06 @ 3:32 pm MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio

I have just mailed the following letter to Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano:

    The Honorable Janet Napolitano
    Governor of Arizona
    1700 W. Washington
    Phoenix, AZ 85007

    Dear Governor Napolitano:
I am writing you to express my grave concern about the captions listed on the Arizona 9/11 Memorial. I am appalled that you, as Governor, would allow political correctness to dictate what events other than 9/11 to commemorate on such a landmark…or left-wing phrases such as this:

I have visited the 9/11 Memorial…twice in the last week…to carefully observe what was written. I have concluded that only the 9/11 events, and Arizona’s responses and losses to same, is what should have been shown. Nothing else!
Regardless of the method the funds used for the construction of the memorial were raised, there are many voters who hold you as ultimately responsible, and I am joining them. This debacle with the Arizona 9/11 Memorial is yet another reason why I look forward to voting you out of office on November 7.
    Thank you for your attention.

To add insult to injury, I placed a Ronald Reagan stamp on the envelope!
The rest of you…you know what to do.

Pre-show brief - Smoke Signals Radio
by smokeeaterblog on 09-23-06 @ 3:02 pm MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio

Over the last week I have heard a lot in the news about many things.  The two main stories that caught my eye were Duane “Dog” Chapman’s arrest (along with two others) for the 2003 capture of the MONSTER Andrew Luster in Mexico.  At that time, Luster was on trial for 86 COUNTS of aggrevated rape, and fled.  Dog took up the hunt as he knew we could not survive as a society if that monster could prove he could get away.  He found Luster hiding in Mexico and brought him home, but was arrested for “Illegal Deprivation of Liberty” (which, in Mexico, is pretty out of place to my thinking).  He served a short time in jail, and was released on bond.  From the special “Dog: The Family Speaks” he stated he was under the impression if he left Mexico and never returned, they would not chase him, so he just loses his bond money (a small price to avoid a Mexican jail).  Well, less than 2 weeks ago, U.S. Federal Marshalls arrested him and he is now fighting extradition to Mexico.  I cannot help but wonder if Mexico is just a little embarassed that when a US criminal crosses (illegally) into Mexico and they do nothing, that we actually hunt down and bring them back, whereas when Mexican gang bangers and criminals cross into our country, they just won’t let them come back, thus saying “it’s your problem now”.

Dog story at Smoke Signals Blog

Second is the Dixie Chicks, and their “surprise” that people just don’t understand that we should not only listen to their left-wing rants, but also that we are SUPPOSED to keep sending them money!  It seems, however, that Natalie Maines is no longer content to just bash our President while in a foreign country (why can’t you say that here Natalie), but she is now bashing HER OWN HOME TOWN!  Well, I plan to discuss this in detail at 1PM central on Sunday 9/24, DON’T MISS IT!

Cha Cha Cha Changes At Gribbit Live
by Gribbit on 09-17-06 @ 3:39 pm MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio

We have some exciting changes coming out of Wide Awakes Radio. Soon, our second generation software will be out giving the host more control over breaks and sound so that will be a huge advantage. This upgrade would literally free up our production department to do other things like producing podcasts.

In other W.A.R. news, due to changes in the daytime lineup, Gribbit Live will be on daily from noon - 3pm Eastern (9 am - noon Pacific). This gives me consistency in my time slot and an extra hour to rant. As soon as the second generation upgrade happens, I will be then starting to feature some of the best in independent music. And I mean, you are going to love the talent available.

Also, we are hoping to get fun Friday off the ground soon as well.

So tune in to the stream by clicking the listen now button in the left sidebar at 12 noon Monday - Friday for Gribbit Live - The most confrontational 3 hours in internet talk radio.

Air America to File for Bankruptcy
by jcb on 09-13-06 @ 12:43 pm MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio, John Bambenek

Think Progress is reporting that Air America radio will announce filing for bankruptcy protection on Friday according to three independent sources. The company has experienced financial difficulties throughout its tenure, continuing to request infusions of capital and suffering the loss of several high-profile hosts. Five employees were laid off Tuesday without severance. The radio has had several controversies in its brief tenure including a funding scandal involving Evan Cohen. Air America Radio was funneled $875,000 dollars from Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club, a not-for-profit, in the form of a “loan” to fund its operations. Due to of the less-than-ethical funding arrangement, Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club has been disbanded. In another incident, The Randi Rhodes Show aired a skit that could have been interpreted as advocating the execution of the President George W. Bush. Several of the shows have been accused as fostering bigotry against Christians, Catholics in particular, and have been seen as lowering the dignity of political debate. In a comment on Think Progress on the matter:

The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format.

However, the progressive talk radio format did exist with the variety of IndyMedia projects as well as Pacifica Radio. Air America, however, was the first radio that put through an entire slate of radio shows instead of syndicating individual shows. This has largely caused problems with their expansion as it required stations to pick up the entire network for 24 hours a day instead of the most popular shows. Ratings have shown that Air America has never been able to compete with rival Rush Limbaugh. However, Air America has brought a new broadcast model into talk radio and has led to similar projects. For instance, Wide Awakes Radio is an internet-only talk radio broadcast station that focuses on conservative content. Air America’s troubled past has finally caught up to them. Board shakeups, hosts leaving, and shady financing have all contributed to the demise of the station. Air America Radio has not returned calls for comment as of this writing.

    Next on the Diggers Den
by Sonnabend on 09-12-06 @ 8:00 am MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio

Sept 11 has come and gone, yet it seems the message has been lost. Beyond the politics, the questions still remains of future events. We turn our thoughts to the every day news..but a wise man knows to look inwards as well.

This weekend, we look within..and ask not as much how we have changed, but how we have adapted to that change..for good or ill?

The law of double jeopardy and the ancient principles stemming from the Magna Carta-and today governments seek to overturn those bulwarks of western law. Is this justice? Has the law failed? Or is this a knee jerk reaction to the baying of the mob?

As usual, Sonnabend’s snippets, leavening the serious stuff with a little humour, as has been said..”A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men” 12-2pm PST Saturday on Wide Awakes Radio…see you there :)

    A message from Australia
by Sonnabend on 09-11-06 @ 5:04 pm MT. Filed under Wide Awakes Radio

It is not enough to say that the world has changed..and that some claim it is no longer possible to win.It is not right to deny that it is possible to defeat this enemy..to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory..to walk away from the sacrifice of our sons and our daughters in uniform…who will willingly and unselfishly walk into the fire to keep us safe.

Let it never be said that the United States stared into the face of evil and looked away, afraid. Let it never be written that when the call to arms was sounded…the US was not ready, weapon in hand, to stand and fight to the death.
We did not ask for this war…we did not want it…we would sooner turn to pursuits of peace, of art, of culture, than to again see bodies in the streets, or hear the crackle of weapons fire..and then to stand at a wall of black onyx, reading again and again the names of those who fell to protect the way of life we cherish so greatly.

There are those who say cut and run…who would believe that walking away, or running away, will ease their burdens, that isolating ourselves from those who wish us ill, will in turn remove the cause for which they wish to kill. They say that in abandoning our responsibilities overseas, we draw their fangs…and that one action will return to haunt us… on the shattered bodies of our friends, our neighbours..who will bear the terrible cost of such craven cowardice in the face of such implacable evil

To a terrorist..retreat is a sign of weakness…and as theirs is a darwinian world, they will interpret that action as an invitation to murder…as Spain learned to its everlasting shame and disgrace.

It does not matter what their intent was..nor what they meant to do. The fact is that their leaving Iraq was a signal that the terrorists had won….and that their blackmail of twisted, charred bodies, had altered the policy of a foreign government.

The Spanish government handed Al Qaeada a PR victory that the rest of the world will spend many years paying for..in blood.

    OURS.

This is not a time for complacency, this is not a time to say that the war cannot be won, and to withdraw from the battlefied on the urging of those who by their actions betray the very tenets they live by,whose cowardice and snivelling appeasement will betray to the enemy the very lives they are sworn to protect.

In times to come, let it not be said that the free world hesitated in the face of hatred, let it not be remembered that we turned and ran when the road became harder, for fear of failure rather than the promise of joy.

Let the memory of those that have fallen be remembered with honour, that their sacrifice and courage were not in vain…let not the desert sands obliterate forever the hesitant footsteps of a new nation on the road to freedom.

Let there be in our future, no retreat, no compromise..and no victory to our enemies.

To the United States of America, from a proud and grateful ally, our thanks, our hopes for the future..and PERDITION TO YOUR ENEMIES.
