Topic - State of the Union Address and the Democratic Response

In past years I have posted an in-depth break down of the State of the Union Address, complete with quotes and such. This year, however, I will not be doing that style of wrap up. I will, however, still give my two cents on it. I will be speaking about this in depth on Sunday 28 January, 2007 on Wide Awakes Radio from 1PM to 2PM central time. I have already begun the arduous task of chopping the audio I have of the speech into clips and I will let the President say again what he said on Wednesday night, after which I will respond.

I am also working on a post such as most of you long time readers are used to, in case you cannot tune in on Sunday, but also remember, I will be podcasting as well. Until then.

I actually posted this last night at The Wide Awakes and Smoke Signals Blog, but I did not get it posted here until now.  Amazing isn’t it, what praying and (as my Mother and Aunt say) claiming a miracle can do, wouldn’t you say?

Well, I registered at my new University today, and I was pleased to find I have more than enough financial aid to not only pay for tuition/fees and books, but also live on campus if I wish. The only issue is coming in that I can NOT find any open classes that fit my degree plan, so I will be going back to the campus tomorrow to not only apply for jobs on campus, and check on housing, but also to work with the counselors and registrar to get my classes opened up. Please pray that all works out with the classes, and that I find a job on campus that pays enough to pay the bills as well as getting a private or semi-private room on campus (I don’t do well in the “classic dorm room” set-up).

I GOT THE JOB ON CAMPUS! Not only that, but I was able to get the assistance I needed to register, and I am done! I was not able to get a private or semi-private room on campus, but I am going to continue corresponding with the Housing department to watch for one to open up. OK, at Bill’s urging, I will explain what this is all about. The six degrees game is basically “connecting” two actors/actresses, using six or fewer movies. An example is below. Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) to Mark Hammil Kevin Smith to Carrie Fisher in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” Carrie Fisher to Mark Hammil in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” That said, CHALLENGE AWAY!

For some time now, we have been hearing about how horrible it is the Michael Richards used the “n-word”, and now is instantly a racist, yet no one talks about all of the black comics, singers, other-performers who use that word and many other racially charged words DAILY! You see, we have gotten to a point where now, it is actually accepted that only white people can be racist, and are whether they want to be or not. You read that right, it would not matter what I did or did not do, to listen to the likes of the “reverend” Jesse Jackson, the “reverend” Al Sharpton, and the rest of the talking heads, just the simple act of my going to school is a racist act, because I am white. Well, I am SICK AND TIRED of being told that unless I completely and totally support anything “the left” is for, that I am either intolerant, a bigot, a racist, a nazi, or worse. It began with abortion, which is seen as a right that cannot be taken away, despite the fact that even IF the Supreme Court reversed Roe V Wade TODAY, abortion would not be “criminalized”, the decision would simply revert to the states, WHERE IT BELONGS! But, beyond that, I am called a sexist pig for speaking out against PARTIAL BIRTH abortions. You see, in that procedure, the “fetus” (but to use the logic of the pro-murderchoice crowd, since there is no need for the womb, it is a CHILD) is allowed to crown. At that point, the CHILD’S skull is punctured and their brain is vacuumed out. Simple non-invasive procedure, unless you consider the CHILD who IS viable outside the womb! I actually had someone say that they could not believe I would argue harder for the rights of someone who had not even been born yet over a “poor child who did not plan to get pregnant” (not a rape victim, not a victim of other sexual abuse, she just “didn’t plan on getting pregnant”), to which I have and will always reply, she is old enough and able to argue on her own behalf, the child is not, therefore I will never cease to fight for the child. You see, abortion is no longer for those women who are raped, assaulted otherwise, or a pregnancy where the child will not survive no matter what, but the mother can be save. Abortion is now seen as birth control, and thanks to the aclu(natics) and planned parenthood (evasion), it is almost impossible to stop someone from taking a MINOR across state lines WITHOUT her parents knowing for a VERY INVASIVE medical procedure (and don’t start on the loophole, I know about the judicial loop hole, and I support it).

Well, unless you live under a rock, you’ve no doubt heard about Michael Richards’ “meltdown” at an LA comedy club. First, I will say this, the man has lost it! It’s a COMEDY CLUB and hecklers are part of the gig! His actions were not “part of the act” and should NEVER be excusable, but here’s the question. Many people are now saying that certain words should NOT be allowed to be used in any situation, and while it would (at least in theory) lead to more civil conversation in many cases, are we really going to cite people (or worse) for speaking now? Are we really going to fire people, or refuse to let someone perform because of words now?

Not to mention, what would happen to (in my estimation) MORE THAN HALF of Chris Rock’s material? Or, would he be allowed because he isn’t white? Would he be told not to say “cracker” or “white devil” on stage any more? Would black comics be told not to make jokes about how white people dance? What would happen to Dave Chapelle? Much of his material comes from racial comedy. The difference is NOT the race of the comic, but how it is presented, AS PART OF THE ACT and NOT responding to a heckler.

So, the big question, IF this goes on, and people are told not to say “the N word”, will we all hear EVERY SINGLE OTHER RACIAL SLUR OUT THERE (even those directed at anglos) be “taken out of the collective vocabulary (FOR EVERYONE)?

BTW - I didn’t find any of Seinfeld’s episodes funny, nor have I ever found Richards funny, so I only pray he did me the favor of removing himself, in stead of having to find something to watch from the DVD binder when all that is on is news, Seinfeld, or cheesy infomercials.

It seems that once again the draft is on the table in Congress. Again, being introduced by Rep Charlie Rangel D-NY, there is a measure mandating military service for Americans. The previous attempt was a mandate for Americans between 18 and 26, but the new measure would be for all Americans between 18 and 42 (I’m pretty much right at the mid point of that bracket), and while I am not saying that I would not serve, I am compelled to ask if we really NEED a draft. The last time the draft was used was during the Vietnam War (and it WAS a war, not a “police action”), and we all know about that, don’t we? I also wonder about another claim by the DNC, that they will “double the size of the Special Forces”, but how is that possible without lowering the standards? Well, I can only say that I will watch this closely, and I am waiting for the cries of “the Republicans want to draft your sons and send them to war”.
